In the Southern Cross Country Championships at Stanmer Park, Brighton on the 28 January, Shaftesbury again showed why we are one of the strongest clubs in the UK, by winning the Men’s Aggregate Trophy which is based on the team performances of all 5 races. UNDER 13 BOYS team finished a creditable 7th place, with first runner home JAMIE HARPER U11 who was 25th in 10.59, NATHAN DAVIES was 33rd in 11.05, JAMES BRENNAN was 63rd in 11.23, WILL STIBBS was 94th in 11.49, FELIX BORDET-STEAD was 123rd in 12.08. The winner was Canaan Solomon of Woodford Green who ran 10.10. The winning team (4 to score) were Aldershot, Farnham & District with 68 points, SBH were 7th with 215. UNDER 13 GIRLS were short of numbers for finishing a team, LIANNE LANGFORD was 26th in 11.50. The winner was Hope Goddard of Bracknell who ran 10.46. The winning team (4 to score) were Bracknell with 33 points. UNDER 15 BOYS team ran outstanding, and secured a well-earned Silver Medal. First runner home was ROBBIE LIGHTOWLER who was 6th in 15.15, ADAM THORPE was 30th in 15.58, JOSEPH BRENNAN was 31st also in 15.58, JOSH CLIFFORD was 71st in 16.38 (Photograph attached). The winner was George Duggan of Tonbridge who ran 14.46. The winning team (4 to score) were Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow with 66 points, 2nd SBH with 138. Following on from the boys, the UNDER 15 GIRLS team finished well to earn a good 5th place. First runner home was NATALIE CONNOR who was 19th in 15.17, SOPHIE PARVIZI-WAYNE was 34th in 15.34, MOLLY GARDEN was 67th in 16.14, CHLOE GOODSON was 95th in 16.46, EMMA DWAN was 123rd in 17.13, GAIA CASCIELLO was 144th in 17.46, ELLIE MCNAMARA was 177th in 18.47. The winner was Bobby Clay of Invicta East Kent who ran 14.05. The winning team (4 to score) were Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow with 58 points, 5th SBH with 215, 23rd SBH “B” team 629. The UNDER 17 MEN carried on their remarkable consistency from the previous years, and won individual Bronze and team Silver Medals. MICHAEL CALLEGARI took his Bronze Medal by the thickness of his vest, and recorded a time of 20.28, Tom Hook who was 4th was given the same time. SAM WILSON was 17th in 21.18, PHILLIP CROUT was 29th in 21.43, KYLE LANGFORD was 49th in 22.18, RORY MUDD was 90th in 23.20, RICHARD JOHNSON was 102nd in 23.42, CALLUM MCCORMICK was 109th in 23.52, JAMES SOTHCOTT was 120th in 24.19, DOUGAL OLIVER was 137th in 25.15. The winner was Jonathan Davies of Reading who ran 19.54. The winning team (4 to score) were Aldershot, Farnham & District with 72 points, 2nd SBH with 98, 12th SBH “B” team 421. The UNDER 17 WOMEN unfortunately were one short completing a team. First runner home was FREYA LENTON who was 29th in 19.11, HARRIET CLIFFORD was 40th in 19.50, ISOBEL THOMPSON was 49th in 20.19. The winner was Alex Clay of Invicta East Kent who ran 17.12. The winning team (4 to score) were Aldershot, Farnham & District with 21 points. The UNDER 20 MEN team finished fifth, with NIALL FLEMING winning the Gold Medal from an in-form Kieran Clements of Ipswich, the last 2 months have been spectacular which included running for GB in the European Championships. NIALL time was 26.03, TADHG GRANT was 30th in 28.49, EUAN MCKENZIE was 48th in 29.53, KIERAN MORELAND was 91st in 35.05. The winning team (4 to score) were Aldershot, Farnham & District with 33 points, 5th SBH with 170. The UNDER 20 WOMEN were in the same position team wise as the U17 Women. First home was SOPHIE CONNOR who just finished out of the medals in 4th place running 23.34, VICTORIA WALKER was 10th in 24.14, and MELISSA COURTNEY was 13th in 24.31, a good run by all three women. The winner was Emelia Gorecka of Aldershot, Farnham & District who ran 22.01. The winning team (4 to score) were Aldershot, Farnham & District with 15 points. The SENIOR WOMEN never completed a team. First home was PHILIPPA AUKETT who was 15th in 31.46, and REBEKAH GARDINER was 19th in 32.12. The winner was Ceri Mitchell of Southampton who ran 29.44. The winning team (4 to score) were Aldershot, Farnham & District with 159 points. Finally the SENIOR MEN who finished the day by winning a much deserved Bronze Medal, and were led home by GLEN WATTS who was 4th just 4 seconds off the Bronze Medal, with a time of 49.25. The winner was Frank Tickner of Wells City who ran 49.11. DAN WATTS was 13th in 51.11, KOJO KYEREME V35 was 22nd in 52.03, ORLANDO EDWARDS V35 was 24th in 52.17, NEIL ADDISON was 74th in 55.06, DANIEL DAVIES was 122nd in 57.07, TIM PARKIN was 557th in 1:12.41, RAY POWELL V45 was 594th in 1:15.04. YAMILE ALDAMA and GEMMA BENNETT represented Great Britain in the Aviva Indoor International in Glasgow on the 28 January. YAMILE had an excellent win in the Triple Jump, and sealed her win after the 5th jump, which was a SB 14.03m, which is ranked No.1 UK in 2012. GEMMA did not get the start she wanted, and finished in 5th place although improving her SB to 8.16. NADIA WILLIAMS competed in the Miting Elan Indoor Meeting at Bratislava, Slovakia on the 29 January, and finished 2nd in the Triple Jump with a SB 13.35m, which is ranked No.2 UK in 2012. NADIA WILLIAMS moved onto Vienna in Austria, to compete in the Indoor Classic Vienna on the 31 January, and continued he good form by winning the Triple Jump, and improved her SB UK ranking with a jump of 13.52m, JULIAN ADENIRAN in a close finish was 2nd in the 60m Hurdles, improving his PB running 7.75, which is ranked No.5 UK in 2012. The London U20 & Senior Indoor Meeting took place at Lee Valley on the 28 & 29 January. Starting with the 200m MARTIN BIGG was 3rd running a SB 25.27. The 400m featured MATTHIAS BOS who finished 2nd in 49.07. In separate heats of the 60m Hurdles JULIAN ADENIRAN was 3rd running 7.91, TOM CAREY won his race in a SB 8.20, and MAURICE RYAN was 6th running 9.13. In the next round JULIAN was 2nd in his race in a PB 7.81, TOM was 5th in 8.39, and MAURICE won his race in 8.78. BLADE ASHBY had a double win in the U20 60m Hurdles, winning in 8.15, then setting a PB of 8.03, which ranks him No.2 UK U20 in 2012. ELOISE NEWMAN in a hotly contested competition in the High Jump, finished 3rd in a SB 1.70m. The Celtic Cup Included Guests Events took place in Cardiff on the 29 January, GREGOR MACLEAN won the Pole Vault with a SB 5.25m, which is ranked No.2 UK U23 in 2012. Good to see NONY MORDI back and jumping well after nearly 2 years out with injuries and studies. NONY won the Triple Jump with a SB 12.78m, which is ranked No.4 UK in 2012. ALLAN SCOTT competed in the Internationales Erdgas Hallenmeeting Indoor Meeting at Chemnitz, Germany on the 27 January, running the 60m Hurdles ran 7.98 and finished 5th. HARRY SAGEL U20 competed in the Control Absolut Indoor Meeting at Sabadell, Spain on the 28 January, running in the 1500m ran 4:05.70 and finished 8th. LUCY YATES competing for University of Utah in the Jackons Invitational at Nampa, Idaho, USA on the 27/28 January, and won the Indoor 800m in a SB 2:10.82, which is ranked No.4 UK U23 in 2012. SARAH WALDRON competing for New Mexico University in the New Mexico Invitational at Albuquerque, NM, USA on the 27/28 January, and ran an Indoor PB for the mile in 4:58.66 and finished 5th, which is ranked No.6 UK in 2012. NEWS FROM DOWN UNDER – DAVID SWEENEY V50 who resides in Brisbane, competed in his first Parkrun last w/e. He tells me he won, and set a course record 16.31 for the 5km (154 competed) which follows the Brisbane River. The race started at 7.00am, it was 23.5 degrees, and 94% humidity. Anyway good to see the stripes in Australia, and photograph attached which was taken last year. PARKRUN results 28 January – At OAK HILL STUART SINGER V50 finished 5th in 21.08, SAAM KYU SMART U13 came 7th running 22.21, YEE YEWT SMART U17 was 8th running a new PB of 22.51, and YAT WING SMART U20 was 11th running 24.06. | |
